Bill reminded members of two forthcoming District 1020 Events:- District Assembly on 18 May at Craiglockhart Campus of Napier University and District Governors Handover on 27 June in the Braid Hills Hotel. Contact Bill Barr for details of both. The JCF Trustees would meet next Thursday in Alan Youngs Office. Bill reported on an approach from Anne Lise Durant, a previous Rotary Exchange Scholar, who wishes to come to Edinburgh in October 2008 and is seeking hospitality. She claimed to be very familiar with Rotarians, which raised some laughter round the room. Members were encouraged to take away a copy of the District 1020 Magazine, which featured a number of Edinburgh stories. Fund-Raising Ceilidh.Jack Aitken made an appeal for support of this fund-raising event being run in Edinburgh Academy Dining Hall on Saturday 10th May at 7.15pm. Jack had tickets today. Only 20 tickets remained. Raffle Prizes were especially invited.Hope and Homes Fund for Children.Forbes Ridland spoke to a tabled paper on this. Martin Bell, OBE, he of the white suit, would be making a presentation in St Georges School on Tuesday 20 June at 6.30 for 7.00pm at a cost of £20. Please contact John Havard or Emma Law.Bangladesh Flood Victim Appeal.Wali Uddin tabled a paper about the Bangladesh Community supporting the Bangladesh Flood Victim Appeal Britannia Spice Meal two years ago, Wali has mobilised many friends and colleagues this time for a dinner on Tuesday 27th May in the Macrobert Pavilion at Ingliston, and has a target of £100,000 for the villages of Kalapara and Nizampur in Patuakhali. Their Fund Raising Dinner would be on 27th May at the RHS at 6.30 for 7.00. Tickets cost £60 each or £500 a table of 10. The Chefs are preparing a great menu and there is a fine programme of entertainment. Contact Bill Barr, Fred Edwards or Wali Uddin.Rotarian Guest, Garrett Dailly was again welcomed by President Robin, who also introduced Martin Osler, who had been a Rotary Exchange scholar to Georgia in 1996. He was sitting with his father, Douglas, who also had Rotary ties with Georgia. Robin himself attended two dinners with Italian Clubs, that of Ancona Conero of District 2090 and that of Crotone of District 2100. He brought their greetings and also a wish that we might link with Crotone Club on an international service project, but more of that in the future. He had also attended the District 1020 Council Meeting in Lockerbie. Finally Harry Bell brought greetings from the Burntisland and Kinghorn Club. Guest Speaker Ross McCosh was then invited to address the Club
on Confidence Coaching. Ross had been active with several blue chip companies
and in Marketing and sales. His task was to help listeners to overcome
their fears by letting go of negative emotions, and gaining self-belief
and so feeling calmer and happier. He was more interested in emotional
tasks than in intellectual solutions. Vote of Thanks.David Simpson gave a humorous summing up of Eds talk, and had members showing sympathy as he tried to breath properly and not look down at his notes. He commended to members the improvement to their lives if they thought positively and always asked the right questions. Their golf might even be better!President Robin commented on his own healthy life-style of regular swimming and deep breathing before asking members to toast Rotary the world over. Piscatorians Outing.George Holmes announces that the first outing of the year will be on 26 May to Gartmore Dam, Sauchie, Clackmannanshire.Charity Casino Night - Rotary Club of Peebles is holding this event on Friday 6th June from 7.30 to 10.30 pm in aid of Riding for the Disabled. £10 incl. chips, wine and nibbles in the Eastgate Theatre. Arts Club Outing to Kelvingrove Galleryon 28th April attracted 14 Rotarians and partners. Keith Frost took charge and the sum of £70 was raised for Rotary Charities. Everyone enjoyed their visit and our guide, May, was a delight to listen to. Eve Crowe made the longest journey from Berwick, but was pleased to meet the guest organist, a friend from ago years ago.
