There had also been an emphasis on Youth with Rotary Young Citizen Awards made to young people aged 10 - 21. There were many ideas coming from Rotarians across Great Britain and Ireland and the fellowship and entertainment surpassed expectations. Sandra reminded our members that the next RIBI Conference would be in Edinburgh on 25th and 26th April 2009. Emma Laws other claims to fame are that she is a Curler extraordinaire and the wife of our member Hamish. Emma outlined her challenge to say something we did not already know and to be controversial. Inner Wheel exists in 100 countries and has three aims, International Understanding, Fellowship and Friendship and Personal Service. There are 28 Districts and 898 clubs in the Uk for the wives of Rotarians [and for daughters, mothers and sisters and so on]. Inner Wheel works to raise money for Blythswood Shoeboxes and to knit sweaters for Mongolia. Rural Clubs tend to be smaller and city clubs larger and from a wider geographical base. The Edinburgh Club meets monthly, with 71 members but there are sub-groups who meet in each others houses. Other groups exist for book reading, hill-walking, gourmet dining and mixed voice choirs. Emma drew attention to the yellows leaflets on the tables. She believed that Inner Wheel can make a difference and quoted the Dalai Lamas story about midges. She wished to see more formal links with our Rotary Club in the future and trawled the idea of having male members one day. She believed there was a place for a ladies club for those who shared their partners enthusiasm for Rotary, bit did not want to be in the same club as their husbands. She challenged her and our successors to talk more about doing things together, as this can only enhance both clubs.Vote of Thanks.Jeff Gibb then proposed a Vote of thanks, thanking Emma for her polished performance as a public speaker and as a Curler. We as Rotarians have offered support for their fund-raising work and at least at Curling matches we can say, but we have Emma! The members then showed their appreciation in the usual way. Robin then closed the meeting with a Toast to the Rotary Club of Edinburgh and the Edinburgh Inner Wheel.Blazer Button. One was found on the floor of the Nairn Room, where we were having lunch. Captain Alistair invited Hamish to accept Honorary Life Membership of the Curling Club in recognition of his considerable contribution over a long period of years.Edinburgh Ambassadorial Scholars invite Rotarians and families from District 1020 to a fundraising picnic and sponsored walk at Loch Katrine at 2.00pm on Saturday 3 May in aid of Rotary Projects at David Gordon Hospital in Livingstonia, Malawi RSVP numbers to [email address removed] [see notice] Kirkcudbright Rotary Club Charter Dinner.60th Anniversary Charter Dinner at 7.00 on 30 May 2008 at Threave Gardens .
